[Saba Sports News] Speaking to the media ahead of the NBA Finals, Celtics forward Jaylen Brown, a three-time NBA All-Star, explained why this year’s team is different from past ones. Brown emphasized that they are smarter, wiser, and more complete overall.
“We feel like we’re a different team than we were last year and the year before that,” Brown said, via Bobby Krivitsky of Sports Illustrated. “I know everybody wants to pigeonhole us to what’s happened in the past, but we’ve had a different team every single year.”
Led by 26-year-old Jayson Tatum, the Celtics have had multiple deep playoff runs, including reaching the NBA Finals in 2022. However, they have consistently fallen short of their title goals, and many doubt their chances against the red-hot Mavericks this year.
“Different coaches,” Brown continued. “We’ve had like three coaches in the last five years, and still, people want to make it seem like it’s the same. Time has gone by, experience has been gained, and I think we are ready to put our best foot forward.”
Brown, 27, was drafted third overall in 2016 and has lived up to the hype as a reliable two-way wing player. Despite not yet winning a ring, he remains confident in his team’s ability to succeed.
The Tatum and Brown era has been marked by high expectations and some disappointments. While they have excelled in the regular season, the Celtics have yet to clinch a championship, and doubts will persist until they do.
