[Saba Sports News] Amid widespread speculation and reports suggesting a potential shift of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to India’s upcoming General Elections, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has firmly refuted such possibilities.
“No, it won’t be moved overseas,” Shah said.
The rumors, fueled by concerns over the logistical challenges the multi-phase elections could pose, hinted at some IPL franchises desiring a change in venue for certain matches. In the past, the IPL had been relocated to the UAE and South Africa under similar circumstances. However, Shah’s recent statement made it clear that the entire season of the lucrative T20 league will remain in India, maintaining the tradition despite the election schedule spanning from April 19 to June 1. The BCCI is set to announce the complete IPL itinerary shortly, with the initial 21 matches confirmed from March 22 to April 7.
The tournament opener will feature defending champions Chennai Super Kings against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai, with teams already gearing up for the 17th edition of the IPL.
