[Saba Sports News] Klay Thompson recently became the sixth player in NBA history to reach 2,500 career three-pointers.
Before the Mavericks’ game against the Orlando Magic, head coach Jason Kidd shared his thoughts on Thompson’s achievement.
“Klay is one of the greatest shooters ever,” Kidd said. “That’s a lot of threes. Congrats to him, but we’re going to need 700 more,” he added with a smile.
Kidd praised Thompson’s work ethic and consistency, highlighting how challenging it is to perform at such a high level, even though Thompson makes it look effortless. He called it a significant accomplishment, noting Thompson’s status as a future Hall of Famer.
Thompson, who had a down year by his standards in 2023-24, still posted solid numbers and is known for his 40-percent shooting from deep and strong defensive play. Heading into his first season with the Mavericks, Thompson expressed confidence and has been performing well, averaging 15.6 points per game with 43.8 percent shooting from the field and 38.8 percent from three. He’s also contributing 3.0 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
While Thompson might aim to boost his scoring, his current production is impactful, especially on a team featuring Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
The Mavericks were facing the Magic and seeking their fourth win of the season on Sunday night.
