[Saba Sports News] Despite recent doubts, the Atlanta Hawks have secured Jalen Johnson with a long-term deal.
Johnson and the Hawks agreed to a five-year, $150 million extension, as reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania. The agreement came just before the rookie extension deadline of 5 p.m. Initially, Marc Stein reported that negotiations were not progressing as of Sunday, but the situation shifted in the final 24 hours, with talks continuing up to the deadline.
Without the deal, Johnson would have entered restricted free agency next offseason.
Johnson had a breakout third season, averaging 16.0 points and 8.7 rebounds in 2023-24, solidifying his role in the Hawks’ future plans.
