A few players are still missing from the Indian team’s
Wednesday arrival in Durban, South Africa. While on a tour of Europe, Ravindra
Jadeja has not yet arrived in South Africa. A few more contingent members will
be arriving from Europe by plane in addition to him. For all three T20Is,
Jadeja will serve as vice captain.
The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has
disclosed that star opener Shubman Gill will travel from the UK to join his
teammates. Following the World Cup final on November 19, Gill took a vacation.
It is previously known that Deepak Chahar was unable
to accompany the team to South Africa because of a domestic family matter. It’s
still unclear whether the pacer will be able to take a plane to South Africa,
and his father is thought to be unwell. He might be there soon, according to
reports, and no one has been named to take his place. The pacer from Chennai
Super Kings and Rajasthan has also been added to the One-Day squad.
It is recognised that each of them, together with a
support staff member, has obtained authorization from the BCCI to join the
team. Everyone is anticipated to arrive in Durban well in advance of the
December 10 first game.
Salil Ankola and SS Das, two selectors, are also
anticipated to travel to South Africa. Due to two teams and numerous matches,
including T20Is, ODIs, Tests, and three India A games, the BCCI has decided to
send two selectors.
The Indian squad will exercise at the Kingsmead ground
on Friday morning for the first time since they arrived in Durban. The Twenty20
match on December 10 is the first match of the series. Three ODIs will be held
in Johannesburg, Gqeberha, and Paarl on December 17, 19, and 21 following two
further T20Is at Gqeberha and Wanderers in Johannesburg on December 12 and 14.
Boxing Day marks the start of the first test at Centurion, and the second and
final test is held at Newlands in Cape Town from January 3. There will be three
India A games in between – from December 11-14, December 20-22, and December
26-29.
