[Saba Sports News] The Super 1000 Series Malaysia Badminton Open is
the inaugural event of the 2024 World Badminton Federation. If Tai Tzu Ying,
the renowned player from Chinese Taipei, wins the championship, she will equal
the record for the most women’s singles titles in the tournament’s history.
Since 1980, Chinese star Zhang Ning has emerged as the women’s singles player
with the most championships in the history of the Malaysian Open, having won
the tournament five times, as verified by Malaysian media. Tai Tzu Ying has
secured four championships in her career at the Malaysian Open, which puts her
tied with Indonesian legend Susi Susanti for the second-highest number of
women’s singles titles. Last year, Malaysian media had high expectations for
Tai Tzu Ying to create history, but unfortunately, she finished in the top
four. After clinching the women’s singles title at the World Tour Finals, Tai
Tzu Ying hinted that she might retire and bid farewell to her legendary career
at the age of 30. She has expressed that her career has been long enough,
having started competing at the age of 14 and accumulating various injuries
over time. Winning the gold medal at the Paris Olympics has become her ultimate
goal. Therefore, there is a strong possibility that the upcoming Malaysian Open
next year will be Tai Tzu Ying’s “last dance.”
