KL Following their separate recoveries from hamstring
and quadriceps ailments that prevented them from playing in the Test in
Visakhapatnam, Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have been included in India’s squad
for the final three Test matches against England. The BCCI has made it clear
that their participation is contingent upon the medical team’s approval.
The two give experience back to an Indian team that
has been bereft of a number of well-known figures. Mohammed Shami, the star
fast bowler, is one of the players who is still out of action. He injured his
ankle towards the conclusion of the World Cup last year and has yet to make a
comeback. Due to a family situation, as was previously announced, top batsman
and former captain Virat Kohli will not play in the series.
In the middle order, Shreyas Iyer will be the other
notable absentee. Given that he has already experienced back problems in the
past year, the 29-year-old has been ruled out of the rest of the series after
complaining of back tightness during the second Test. Consequently, Sarfaraz
Khan and Rajat Patidar have both been able to hold onto their positions.
Mohammed Siraj, who was not included in the squad for
the second Test in Visakhapatnam, gets chosen in the interim. The selection
committee chose Akash Deep to replace Avesh Khan, who was released, while
Mukesh Kumar was kept on. Saurabh Kumar was also released after Jadeja’s
return.
The third Test of the series, currently locked at 1-1,
starts on February 15 in Rajkot.
