[Saba Sports News] Speculation is swirling about India’s ODI jersey, which now features two stars above the BCCI logo. This has led to concerns that the move might diminish the significance of the T20 World Cup. The ODI jersey, to be worn during the World Cup, represents India’s victories in the 1983 and 2011 World Cups, as this tournament follows the 50-over format.
India’s World Cup campaign is set to begin in less than three weeks at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, where they will face five-time champions Australia on October 8th. During a recent match against Bangladesh, a sneak peek of India’s ODI World Cup jersey surfaced online, causing a stir due to a key difference from the ongoing Asia Cup jersey.
The main distinction is in the number of stars on the BCCI emblem. The Asia Cup jersey proudly displays three stars, symbolizing India’s three World Cup victories: two in the ODI format (1983 and 2011) and one in the T20 format (2007). In contrast, the ODI World Cup jersey has only two stars, representing India’s two ODI World Cup triumphs.
The designer behind the Team India jersey is Aaquib Wani, a talented individual from Kashmir now based in Delhi. Aaquib has worked closely with various brands, including Adidas, the official kit sponsor for Team India.
Adidas secured a significant deal with the Indian cricket team, worth 350 crore rupees over five years, starting in June and ending in March 2028. As part of this agreement, Adidas pays 65 lakh rupees for each match India plays, with the total annual expenditure estimated to be around 70 crore rupees, considering merchandise sales royalties.
