[Saba Sports News] Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim officially bid farewell to international cricket on Friday at the age of 34. His last appearance in the Pakistan jersey was in April 2023 against New Zealand in a T20I at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Sharing his decision through a post on social media, Imad expressed that after thoughtful consideration in the past few days, he believes now is the right moment to retire from international cricket.
“In recent days I have been doing a lot of thinking about my international career and I have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to announce my retirement from international cricket,” wrote Imad in his retirement post.
Gratefully acknowledging the unwavering support and platform provided by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Imad expressed deep gratitude, stating, “I would like to thank the PCB for all their support over the years – it has truly been an honour to represent Pakistan. Each of my 121 appearances across the ODI and T201 formats was a dream come true.”
As he bids farewell, Imad conveyed his best wishes to the incoming leadership and coaching staff, highlighting the promising future for Pakistan cricket.
“It’s an exciting time for Pakistan cricket going forwards with new coaches and leadership incoming. I wish all involved every success and I look forward to watching the team excel,” he added.
Imad represented Pakistan in 55 ODIs, scoring 986 runs at an average of 42.87 and a strike rate of 110.29. With the ball, he took 44 wickets at an average of 44.47 and an economy rate of 4.88. In T20Is, he accumulated 486 runs in 66 matches with an average of 15.18 and a strike rate of 131.70. Additionally, he claimed 65 wickets with an average of 21.78 in T20Is.
After expressing gratitude to Pakistani fans for their unconditional support, Imad extended his thankfulness to his family and friends, acknowledging their crucial role in his success.
“Thank you to the Pakistan fans for always supporting me with such passion. A final thank you to my family and friends who have been so important in helping me achieve at the highest level. I now look forward to focussing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage,” Imam concluded.
