[Saba Sports News] The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, initially set to be hosted by Pakistan, may be relocated or use a hybrid model due to India’s hesitation to travel there for political and security reasons. In light of this potential shift, Iceland Cricket humorously offered to host the tournament in a letter to ICC Chairman Greg Barclay. They highlighted Iceland’s abundant electricity to combat cold weather and its volcanic ash soils with excellent drainage, contrasting Asian venues.
The letter also referenced the USA, which was chosen to host the T20 World Cup 2024 despite lacking constructed venues at the time, similar to Iceland’s situation.
However, reports suggest the Champions Trophy 2025 might move to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), possibly adopting a format like the Asia Cup 2023, where matches were split between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has requested the ICC to finalize hosting agreements and seeks compensation if India declines to travel to Pakistan. The last bilateral series between India and Pakistan was in 2012-13, with subsequent encounters only in multinational events due to India’s reservations about playing in Pakistan.
