[Saba Sports News] India and Australia faced off in Match 5 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 8 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Australia’s captain won the toss and chose to bat first. Alongside the thrilling on-field cricket action, the crowd witnessed the famous pitch invader Jarvo making his appearance during India’s opening World Cup game.
Jarvo, known for his pitch invasions during the England vs. India Test series in 2021, sneaked into the playing area but was swiftly caught and removed by security personnel. Virat Kohli was seen briefly engaging with Jarvo during his removal.
Reports indicate that Jarvo has been banned from all future matches in the ongoing World Cup by the ICC. He has gained notoriety for similar intrusions in various UK sports events and is banned for life from Headingley, Leeds.
In the match itself, India made a strong start to their World Cup campaign, dismissing Australia for 199 in 49.3 overs. Ravindra Jadeja played a pivotal role, taking 3/28 in ten overs, including key wickets like Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Alex Carey.
Kuldeep Yadav (2/42) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/35) also chipped in with two wickets each. Steve Smith was the top scorer for Australia with 46 runs. India will aim to chase down the target efficiently and commence their tournament on a high note.
