[Saba Sports News] Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag opined on David Warner’s decision to retire from Test cricket post the Australia-Pakistan series.
While Warner has already announced his retirement from the ODI format, he is currently playing his farewell Test match against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Speaking on Warner’s retirement call, Sehwag stated that the southpaw should not be hanging up his boots in Test cricket at the moment as his fitness and reflexes are still quite strong.
“I don’t think he should retire from Tests based on how he’s batting. But as you age and get to 35-36, you start thinking about off-field matters, like your family and your kids. I can’t see any issue with his reflexes or fitness owing to age. I think he’s mentally decided that he doesn’t want to play Tests anymore. I am sure he will continue playing T20 cricket for a long time to come,” Sehwag said as quoted on Cricbuzz.
For the unversed, Sehwag was the first person to see a potential Test batter in Warner when the duo used to play in the IPL for Delhi Daredevils, now Delhi Capitals.
After toiling hard in first-class cricket for two years, Warner made his Test debut in 2011. He is the fifth-highest in the list of Australian batters with most Test runs. The 37-year-old has accumulated 8,729 runs in 112 matches, including 26 centuries.
