[Saba Sports News] In a
professional badminton match, a total of five referees are typically required.
These referees are divided into two categories: the Chief Referee (Chief
Umpire) and the Assistant Referee (Line Umpire). The Chief Referee is
responsible for managing and making judgments throughout the entire game. The
Assistant Referee, on the other hand, focuses on judging inbounds and
outbounds. Within the assistant referee category, there are usually two types
of referees: the service judge and the non-service judge. The service judge
determines whether the serve passes the net and whether it falls within the
effective area. The non-service judge, on the other hand, judges whether the
opponent commits a fault while receiving the serve. In some high-level
competitions like the Olympic Games and World Championships, an additional
supervisory referee (Supervisor Umpire) may be added. The supervisory referee’s
main role is to oversee the work and judgments of the referee team. It’s
important to note that the number of referees required for a badminton match
may vary depending on the level of the game and the specific tournament
regulations.
