[Saba Sports News] BCCI Secretary Jay Shah provided an update on India all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who is currently recovering from an ankle injury.
For the uninitiated, Pandya twisted his ankle, trying to stop a boundary in India’s World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh. This ruled him out of the remainder of the World Cup and the T20I series versus Australia and South Africa.
After the T20Is against South Africa, India’s next shortest-format assignment and probably their last before the 2024 World Cup, scheduled in June-July in the West Indies and the USA, is the home series versus Afghanistan.
As revealed by Jay, Pandya could very mark his comeback in the Afghanistan series, starting in January.
“Hardik Pandya could be fit for Afghanistan T20 series in January,” the BCCI secretary said as quoted by PTI.
Pandya has been leading India in T20Is since the previous 2022 World Cup where the Men in Blue lost in the semi-finals to England. However, he still is not made the captain officially. Now that Rohit Sharma is also in the scheme of things, it will be interesting to see who leads the team if they both play together.
