[Saba Sports News] Ex-Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has decided to end his political career to focus on his upcoming cricket commitments, particularly with the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Having joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in March 2019, Gambhir made the decision to resign from his political responsibilities, as revealed in his latest update on social media. He began his political stint on March 22, 2019, after joining the BJP alongside senior party leaders and subsequently won the 2019 Lok Sabha seat from East Delhi by a significant margin.
In his social media post, Gambhir thanked the BJP’s top brass, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, for the chance to contribute to public service. His message highlighted his request to BJP President JP Nadda to be excused from his political roles to dedicate himself to cricket.
Previously an integral part of the Indian cricket squad, Gambhir was instrumental in India’s T20 World Cup victory in 2007 and the 2011 ODI World Cup triumph, delivering key performances in both finals. Following his political exit, he has also severed ties with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) IPL team, where he was a mentor. He is set to return to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), this time as a mentor, rejoining the franchise where he once led as a player to two IPL championships in 2012 and 2014.
