[Saba Sports News] The highly-anticipated FX miniseries “Clipped” premiered this week on Hulu. “Clipped” is a dramatized retelling of the 2014 scandal that led to LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling being banned from the NBA for life, based on Ramona Shelburne’s ESPN 30 for 30 podcast “The Sterling Affairs.”
While the series has received mostly favorable reviews, social media was united in criticizing the casting of Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry. The Warriors, primary rivals of the Clippers during that era, were expected to feature in “Clipped” due to their playoff encounters during the Sterling scandal.
The actor cast as Curry has drawn universal criticism online for bearing no resemblance to the basketball star. Many joked that the actor looked more like Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott than Curry.
Although viewers are expected to suspend disbelief with Ed O’Neill playing Donald Sterling and Laurence Fishburne as Doc Rivers, the distinctive appearance of Curry, especially during his mid-20s, warranted better casting from FX. The actor playing Curry is not listed on the show’s IMDB page, marking a significant casting misstep akin to one in a 2022 sports movie.
