[Saba Sports News] One of the NBA’s top rebounders could be on the move this summer.
Evan Sidery of Forbes reports that Atlanta Hawks big man Clint Capela is a “probable” trade candidate this offseason. Capela is on an expiring contract worth approximately $22.3 million for next season.
With Atlanta landing the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, they are likely to select seven-footer Alex Sarr. This would put Capela’s future with the Hawks in question.
At 29, Capela led the NBA in rebounding during the 2020-21 season and remained productive last season, averaging 11.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game over 73 starts. However, he saw his fewest minutes per game since 2016-17 due to the emergence of younger big men like Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu.
While the Hawks might trade the No. 1 pick, if they draft Sarr, it could signal the end of Capela’s time in Atlanta.
