[Saba Sports News] Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose has officially announced his retirement from basketball. The 35-year-old shared a heartfelt statement on social media and published ads in newspapers across the six cities where he played: Chicago, New York, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Detroit, and Memphis.
“You believed in me through the highs and lows… You turned the court into my sanctuary,” Rose wrote, reflecting on his career and the lessons basketball taught him about life, discipline, and perseverance.
A three-time All-Star and the youngest MVP in NBA history, Rose won the award in 2011 at age 22 after averaging 25.0 points and 7.7 assists. However, a torn ACL in 2012 derailed his career, and he later played for multiple teams. Rose last played for the Memphis Grizzlies but was waived after requesting to be released from his contract.
Rose, who battled injuries throughout his career, averaged 17.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds over 15 NBA seasons. He finishes his career with fond memories and gratitude for the game.
