[Saba Sports News] On June 4, Lee Guan Chong, the former coach of Malaysian men’s doubles badminton, passed away at the age of 87 at Pantai Hospital in Bangsar. In an interview with Bernama, Lee Guan Chong’s son, Eric Lee, confirmed that his father passed away due to old age. The wake ceremony took place on Wednesday and Thursday, where his relatives and fans paid their last respects. Lee Guan Chong’s cremation was held at the PJCCA Kuei Garden Crematorium in Petaling Jaya on Friday. Datuk James Selvaraj, a former Malaysian badminton player and coach, also attended the cremation ceremony and expressed his sadness at the loss of Lee Guan Chong. Lee Guan Chong was known as a decisive coach in the minds of Malaysian fans. He played a crucial role in preparing the Malaysian national team for the 1975 and 1976 Thomas Cup finals. Under his coaching, Malaysia achieved their highest accomplishment in the Thomas Cup by winning the silver medal in 1976.
