[Saba Sports News] In the ongoing International
Badminton Super 300 Swiss Open, the 48th-ranked pair of Keng Shu Liang and
Zhang Chi suffered a major upset defeat against the Australian duo Setyana
Mapasa and Angela Yu. It has been revealed that Angela Yu is the daughter of
former Chinese national player Tang Hetian, inheriting her mother’s badminton
talent. Tang Hetian, a renowned Chinese badminton player who held the world’s
second-ranking and achieved victories in prestigious tournaments like the
Sudirman Cup and Uber Cup, transitioned out of the national team and married
her national teammate Yu Qi before immigrating to Australia. Following their
marriage, they had a son and a daughter, both of whom became badminton players.
As Australian citizens, Tang Hetian and Yu Qi made significant contributions to
the development of badminton in Australia. It’s worth noting that when they
first arrived in Australia, badminton was purely an amateur hobby, lacking
professional training opportunities. If Australian badminton flourishes in the
future, Tang Hetian and Yu Qi will undoubtedly be credited for their efforts.
