[Saba Sports News] Vlade Divac has left fans “stunned” with his recent comments about the 2018 NBA Draft during an interview with Croatian outlet Index HR.
As the general manager of the Sacramento Kings at the time, Divac defended his decision to pass on Luka Doncic, who was picked third overall after the Kings selected Marvin Bagley III.
When asked about skipping over Doncic, Divac explained, “I had De’Aaron Fox at that position, whom I drafted a year earlier. At that moment, I thought that Fox was a player who could become a franchise player in the next period.”
Acknowledging how things have played out, Divac added, “Time will tell if I was wrong. As things stand now, it looks like I am, but I have faith in little Fox that he will have a better career.”
While Divac prioritized team needs over drafting the best overall player, Fox has since become an All-Star guard for Sacramento. Still, many fans feel Divac “blew it” by passing on Doncic, though he insists the “story isn’t over yet.” Most fans, however, seem to think otherwise.
