Sports News] According to the latest news, Andretti’s application to compete in
the Formula 1 (F1) championship in 2025 has been rejected. The Federation
Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) had previously acknowledged Andretti’s
technical capabilities and allowed them to submit a formal application for
participation. Andretti had plans to partner with General Motors and Cadillac
starting from 2026 to enter F1. However, F1’s owner, Liberty Media, rejected
their application. The reason behind the rejection is that F1 is set to
introduce new technical regulations in 2026, and Andretti’s desire to compete
in 2025 would require developing two different racing cars under two different
sets of rules. As a new team, Andretti would face significant challenges in
terms of technical resources and capabilities. Additionally, F1 is concerned
about the financial interests of the current teams. If a new team cannot bring
significant revenue or a qualitative improvement to the sport, it could
potentially dilute the interests of the existing teams. For Andretti to join
F1, they would need to secure a manufacturer engine agreement and demonstrate
their competitiveness. Without meeting these criteria, it will be challenging
for Andretti to enter the F1 championship.
