[Saba Sports News] Former two-time NBA champion Mychal Thompson has a fitting nickname for Caitlin Clark’s current situation.
Thompson, father of NBA star Klay Thompson, appeared on OutKick’s “Don’t @ Me with Dan Dakich” and shared his admiration for Clark, noting he has followed her career since her sophomore year at Iowa. He addressed the negativity Clark has received from some WNBA players.
“Well, they don’t like Caitlin Clark,” Thompson said. “I’ve been following her since she was a sophomore at Iowa. She plays like Steph Curry, which we hadn’t seen before in women’s basketball. I used to tell people to watch her shoot from the logo. She eventually caught on, even among those who weren’t initially interested in women’s basketball.”
Thompson then introduced his “JEEP” acronym to describe Clark’s experience.
“She needs a Jeep endorsement because Jeep stands for jealousy, envy, egos, and pettiness,” Thompson explained. “That’s how some in the WNBA have treated her, especially the old guard, as she commands significant attention and boosts the league’s popularity.”
Clark, who was reportedly left off the Olympic team due to concerns over the attention she attracts, has also been targeted by opponents this season. Despite this, she is averaging 16.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 7.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game.
