[Saba Sports News] A former Los Angeles Clippers player revealed this week that he once threatened to knock out Paul George when they were teammates.
Montrezl Harrell published a feature for The Players Tribune on Wednesday, sharing his journey to the NBA and personal experiences. Harrell expressed regret about returning to the NBA “Bubble” in Orlando to finish the 2019-2020 season amid COVID restrictions. His Clippers blew a 3-1 lead and lost to the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the playoffs that season.
In the piece, Harrell recounted how he wasn’t in the right mindset during that time due to his grandmother’s death. He also criticized George for not knowing the Clippers’ defensive assignments, leading Harrell to threaten George.
“I told [Paul George] right then and there, in front of coaches and everybody, ‘I will knock you the f–k out, bro. You’re trippin’. You were wrong, bro. You’re WRONG,’” Harrell revealed.
Harrell explained that George failed to switch on a pick-and-roll as expected, pointing out that George was the only player unaware of the coverage.
“Everybody in this s–t knows the coverage but you,” Harrell recalled telling George.
After the season, the Clippers informed Harrell they wouldn’t be bringing him back. Since joining the league in 2015, Harrell has played for six different teams and spent last season recovering from a torn ACL.
Meanwhile, George left the Clippers to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers this summer. The Clippers have not realized the potential many envisioned when George and Kawhi Leonard joined the team in the summer of 2019.
