[Saba Sports News] Anthony Taylor, who officiated the
Europa final last season, might still be fresh in your memory. Following that
match, Taylor received death threats due to perceived unfair officiating against
Roma. However, last week, Taylor was assigned as the referee for the Premier
League match between Newcastle United and Wolves, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
Controversial penalty decisions during the game led the Premier League Referee
Company to adopt a zero-tolerance stance, resulting in Taylor’s demotion to
officiate a Championship game this week. According to available data, this is
the first time since 2019 that Taylor has refereed a match at a lower level.
Some fans have proposed the introduction of a red and yellow card system within
the refereeing community, as well as the implementation of fines or suspensions
similar to those imposed on club players.
