Sports News] According to African media reports, Samuel Eto’o, the chairman of
the Cameroon Football Association, has been accused of attempting to influence
the Football Association’s decision through political means. Eto’o publicly
expressed his desire for the Cameroon national team coach, Rigbert, to continue
in his position. He even went as far as to approach the President of Cameroon
to request Rigbert’s retention, potentially violating FIFA’s regulations.
FIFA’s rules explicitly state that there should be no political interference in
the decision-making process of the Football Association. Eto’o, who has a
decorated playing career, winning the UEFA Champions League three times and
being named African Footballer of the Year four times, has transitioned into a
leadership role after retiring. In December 2021, Eto’o was successfully
elected as the chairman of the Cameroon Football Association.
