[Saba Sports News] The NBA Slam Dunk Contest has seen a noticeable decline in star participation in recent years. However, this trend may change with Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown contemplating entry into the 2024 event. As reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, Brown has been considering this for weeks and his participation could revitalize the contest, which has lacked prominent names for a decade.
Last year’s event highlighted the issue, with the most notable competitor being role player Trey Murphy III, and the victory going to G League standout Mac McClung, despite his limited NBA experience.
The last time the contest featured All-Star players was a while ago, with the 2014 competition showcasing John Wall, Damian Lillard, and Paul George. Brown, a 3-time All-Star and All-NBA honoree, would bring much-needed excitement and prestige back to the event, especially if he faces off against McClung or another unexpected high-profile contender.
