[Saba Sports News] Deandra Dottin from the West Indies and Australia’s Kim Garth have set the highest base price of INR 50 Lakh for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) player auction on December 9 in Mumbai. Following them, four international players have registered under the second-highest base price of INR 40 Lakh: Australians Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham, South African Shabnim Ismal, and England’s Amy Jones. Sutherland and Garth have prior WPL experience with Gujarat Giants, while Dottin, initially with Giants, withdrew due to a dispute over fitness certifications.
The second WPL edition will see 165 players, including 104 Indians and 61 internationals, vying for 30 available slots across five franchises, with just nine spots for foreign players. Notable names like Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu, India’s Veda Krishnamurthy, England’s Danni Wyatt, Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield, and New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu, all overlooked in the previous WPL, are listed at a base price of INR 30 Lakh. Tammy Beaumont is also enlisted as a wicketkeeper-batter.
Among the auction candidates, 15 players come from associate nations, including Thailand’s Natthakan Chantham, Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce, and USA’s Tara Norris. The auction features 56 capped and 109 uncapped players.
The Gujarat Giants have the most vacancies (10) and the largest purse (INR 5.95 Crore) for the auction. UP Warriorz, with INR 4 Crore, need to fill five slots, while Royal Challengers Bangalore have INR 3.35 Crore for their seven vacancies.
