[Saba Sports News] Doc Rivers has expressed doubts about his mid-season decision to accept the head coaching position with the Milwaukee Bucks, following the dismissal of Adrian Griffin. In a candid conversation on Sirius XM NBA Radio’s “The Starting Lineup,” Rivers revealed his initial skepticism to the Bucks’ ownership regarding their choice to fire Griffin and hire him. Despite his reservations, Rivers accepted the role, influenced by the ownership’s insistence and the finality of their decision.
Rivers’ reflections come amid a challenging start to his tenure with the Bucks, marked by a 3-7 record in his first 10 games, including a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers and a significant defeat by a Miami Heat team missing Jimmy Butler. Before Griffin’s departure, the Bucks were positioned second in the Eastern Conference with a 30-13 record but have since slipped to third, now trailing the Boston Celtics by 8.5 games for the top seed.
This period of adjustment and the team’s performance under his guidance seem to have intensified Rivers’ contemplation of the circumstances leading to his hiring, especially as he had previously remarked on the timing of his entry before what he considered the season’s most challenging road trip.
