[Saba Sports News] Doc Rivers, now coaching the Milwaukee Bucks, revisited his time with the Philadelphia 76ers during his return to Philadelphia on Sunday, sparking discussion with comments about last year’s playoff shortcomings.
Reflecting on the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals, where the Sixers, leading the series 3-2, lost Game 6 at home to Boston, Rivers expressed regret over the execution of the game plan, particularly in getting Joel Embiid the ball.
“I didn’t think Joel got the ball enough,” Rivers admitted, questioning Embiid’s health during the game.
Despite a narrow lead going into the fourth quarter, Philadelphia faltered, managing only 13 points in the final period and losing the game—and the series. Embiid, who scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, was limited to six points in the last quarter.
Rivers’s candid reflection may seem sincere to some, highlighting his regret over a missed opportunity. However, critics might view his remarks as justifications for past coaching disappointments.
