[Saba Sports News] Twelve years ago, Derrick Rose created an unforgettable All-Star moment by refusing to dance with LeBron James and Dwight Howard during the 2012 game introductions.
Now, with his retirement officially announced, Rose decided it was time to finally show off those dance moves.
Reflecting on his stoic moment back then, the 2011 MVP explained, “I can dance, but there’s a time and place, and I didn’t think that was it.”
He added that he wasn’t bothered by any criticism, saying, “You just know that’s me. If you saw me dancing, you’d look at me differently. I can’t be anybody else.”
During the 2012 All-Star Game, Rose played just over 18 minutes, scoring 14 points in the East’s 152-149 loss to the West.
Unfortunately, this would be his last All-Star appearance, as he tore his ACL later that year and endured several more injuries. Despite setbacks, Rose’s resilience led him to a 15-year NBA career, and he retires with pride.
In his retirement statement, Rose shared his vision for the future: “The next chapter is about chasing my dreams and sharing my growth. I believe true success comes from becoming who you were created to be, and I want to show the world who I am beyond basketball.”
Rose’s journey may have been challenging, but his perseverance and positive outlook continue to inspire.
