[Saba Sports News] On the ‘Got Sole’ podcast, Dennis Rodman reflected on his time with the San Antonio Spurs, calling the city “one of the most Bible-thumping cities in the world.” Known for his rebellious persona, Rodman’s eccentric lifestyle clashed with the conservative values of San Antonio during his turbulent stint with the team.
Rodman shared how his crossdressing, attending gay clubs, and participating in Pride events led many to question his sexuality. Despite the friction, his on-court success kept him with the Spurs for a while.
“The only reason they kept me around was because we were winning,” he said, before being traded to Chicago after the 1995 season.
Rodman expressed a sense of freedom when he moved to Chicago, where he thrived alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, helping the Bulls win three straight NBA titles.
His reflections highlight the cultural clash in San Antonio but also how his individuality and talent ultimately prevailed.
