[Saba Sports News] The New Orleans Pelicans’ major offseason acquisition, Dejounte Murray, has suffered an injury just 30 minutes into his debut.
Murray played in the team’s season opener against the Chicago Bulls, where the Pelicans won 123-111. Despite shooting 4/15 from the field, Murray posted a solid stat line with 14 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists.
However, after the game, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Murray is feared to have fractured his left hand, which could sideline him for several weeks or possibly months. The injury timeline is uncertain, as Murray remained in the game until the starters were pulled with under two minutes left.
The Pelicans traded significant assets to acquire the 28-year-old former All-Star, who brings elite defense and playmaking alongside Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson. With Murray out, New Orleans may shift CJ McCollum to point guard and rely on players like Jose Alvarado, Jordan Hawkins, and rookie Antonio Reeves to fill the backcourt void in the tough Western Conference.
