[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, Kevin De Bruyne has privately revealed that he does not want to be the captain of the team. De Bruyne’s abilities are beyond doubt; he gets along well in the locker room but may not necessarily be a leader or a constructive figure. Reports indicate that De Bruyne has expressed privately that he does not want the captain’s armband because he prefers to focus on the game rather than take on additional responsibilities. He knows what he excels at and what he does not, and traditionally, a captain sometimes needs to say the right words at the right time, which does not suit De Bruyne. However, over the past 18 months, De Bruyne has been appointed as a dual captain for both club and national team. At a press conference before his first match as captain of Belgium in March 2023, De Bruyne stated: “Everyone knows I don’t want to beat around the bush. However, any criticism aims to help everyone do better.” Fans may have their own views on this matter.
