[Saba Sports News] England explosive opener Dawid Malan smashed his sixth ODI hundred in the World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh on Tuesday in Dharamsala. The southpaw scored 140 runs off 107 balls with an strike-rate of 130.84, aided by 16 fours and five sixes.
The 36-year-old became the fastest batter to hit six ODI centuries, taking only 23 innings to reach this milestone. He broke the record of Pakistan’s Imam-ul-Haq, who achieved this feat in 27 innings.
Malan also became the third batter to hit joint-most ODI hundreds in a calendar year for England, with four ODI centuries in 2023. The other two on the list are David Gower, who accomplished this back in 1983, and Jonny Bairstow, who achieved this in 2018.
Furthermore, Malan, who scored 140 runs in the seventh match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 recorded the fourth-highest individual score for England in the ODI World Cups. The top three on the list are Andrew Strauss, who smashed 158 runs against India in 2011, followed by Jason Roy and Eoin Morgan, who scored 153 and 148 runs against Bangladesh and Afghanistan respectively in 2019.
Riding on the back of Malan’s marvellous knock, England claimed a 137-run victory over Bangladesh.
