[Saba Sports News] Australia batter David Warner is set to prioritize ILT20 over the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies.
Australia have three ODIs and as many T20Is scheduled against the West Indies from February 2-13. The multi-format assignment clashes with the upcoming season of ILT20, where Warner will play for Dubai Capitals from January 20 to February 18.
The southpaw is due for a retirement from Test cricket next week. He will play his farewell Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground against Pakistan. Following this, he will join Sydney Thunder to feature in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) edition before going to the UAE for ILT20 2024.
“I think
the short answer to that is probably yes. I know he’s pretty
committed to the BBL,” the chief executive of Australian Cricketers’ Association Todd Greenberg said as quoted to SEN.

“There’s
no doubt in the next phase of Dave’s life he’s going to be looking to
ply his trade where he gets the best return on his investment. I don’t
think there’s anything wrong with that, in fact I’m encouraging him to
do that,” he added.

“There will be times where he’ll be looking to miss certain games and
tours. That’s the sort of flexibility we’ve got to get our heads around.
Some people won’t like that, but that’s the modern world of which we’re
living in and we have to embrace it.”

While Warner choosing league cricket over internationals is one of firsts in Australia, ESPNCricinfo reported that it was already decided that senior players will be rested for the West Indies series. A full-strength Aussie side could be seen for the three T20Is slated to happen versus New Zealand in their last shortest-format series before the next year’s World Cup.
