[Saba Sports News] Team USA Basketball’s victory at the Paris Olympics seemed to get D’Angelo Russell in his feelings.
The Los Angeles Lakers guard was roasted online after posting a boastful message on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. After a fan compared Russell’s shooting streaks to Steph Curry’s late-game heroics in the gold medal match against France, Russell quote-posted the comment with the ironic caption, “I humbly agree.” He later deleted the post.
While fans’ bad takes are nothing new, Russell’s endorsement of this one had social media in stitches. Many pointed out that while Russell has his hot moments, Steph Curry’s consistency (47.3% career shooting compared to Russell’s 43.0%) and ability to shine under pressure set him apart. Curry, a four-time NBA champion, just delivered a clutch performance on the global stage, while Russell has yet to win a conference finals game. There’s a clear gap in accomplishments.
At 28, Russell still has time to achieve more in his NBA career, but he might want to dial down the overconfidence if he wants to be taken more seriously.
