[Saba Sports News] Pakistan’s preparations for their upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Australia have been disrupted as several key players have contracted a viral chest infection while in Bengaluru. Reports suggest that four to five players, including Shaheen Afridi, Abdullah Shafique, Zaman Khan, and Usama Mir, are suffering from high fever and illness.
Afridi sought immediate medical attention for a viral bacterial infection and received antibiotic drips to aid his recovery. Shafique is under the care of doctors due to a severe high fever. Zaman Khan and Usama Mir have also been affected, with Mir placed in quarantine as a precaution, despite negative test results. Pakistan’s media manager has reported that the players are showing signs of improvement and are on the road to recovery.
Pakistan, led by Babar Azam, will be eager to secure a victory in their next fixture, following their defeat to arch-rivals India. Despite a strong start in that match, Pakistan suffered a dramatic collapse, losing eight wickets for just 26 runs and ultimately being bowled out for 191. India chased down the target in 30.3 overs, extending their unbeaten World Cup record against Pakistan to 8-0.
After this loss, Pakistan occupies the fourth spot on the points table with two wins from three matches, holding four points. They will aim to bounce back with a win against Australia in their upcoming game.
