[Saba Sports News] The Thailand Super Masters
concluded with CHOU Tien-Chen, a prominent player from Chinese Taipei,
clinching the men’s singles championship in a remarkable display of resilience.
Following his victory, Chou sat on the ground deep in thought, while his
dedicated physical therapist remained on the coaching bench, bowing their head
in prayer. They both understood the significance of this hard-fought
championship, considering that Chou had been diagnosed with colon cancer the
previous year. The diagnosis came at the beginning of last year when Chou took
a break from competitions to rest in Taipei and underwent a comprehensive
physical examination. To his surprise, early-stage colon cancer was detected.
With the guidance of doctors, Chou promptly underwent resection surgery.
Although the cancer had not spread, the doctors performed an extensive
resection to ensure no remnants were left behind. In the surgical procedure, a
clip that can be absorbed by the body was placed in the intestine to secure the
wound. Despite the challenges, Chou resumed normal life and continued intense
training to compete on the tour. In November of the previous year, after
winning the men’s singles championship at the German Hero Badminton Open, Chou
bravely shared his cancer diagnosis with his fans. His story serves as a
reminder that no matter the setbacks or adversities we face, perseverance will
lead us to the answers we seek.
