The Board of Control for Cricket in India has placed
Chetan Sakariya on the suspicious bowling action list (BCCI). The BCCI notified
the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises on Friday that the Saurashtra
left-arm pacer is one of the seven players the board has designated as a bowler
with a suspicious action, even though he is not prohibited from bowling.
Sakariya has represented India in one ODI and two
T20Is in addition to 19 IPL games. Strangely, very few people know the exact
day that the left-arm pacer was first documented. Officials from the Saurashtra
Cricket Association (SCA) and individuals with direct knowledge of the player
deny knowing that he is on the suspect list.
The 25-year-old pacer has been reported, but has not
been banned, according to the BCCI. Sakariya was recently released by the Delhi
Capitals franchise. He is currently out of commission owing to a stress
fracture in his back. Sources from the Saurashtra team, however, suggest that
he will return to action shortly and might even play in this season’s Ranji
Trophy.
Sakariya hasn’t played in any domestic matches this
season, including the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy,
since the conclusion of the previous IPL. Sakariya is ranked No. 27 in the
auction register and has set a base price of Rs 50 lakh for himself.
A few other notable figures from within the country
are also listed, including Arpit Guleria of the Himachal Pradesh Cricket
Association, Saurabh Dubey of the Vidarbha Cricket Association, Chirag Gandhi
of the Gujarat Cricket Association, Salman Nizar of the Kerala Cricket
Association, and Tanush Kotian of the Mumbai Cricket Association. Furthermore,
bowling bans have been imposed on Manish Pandey and KL Shrijith of the
Karnataka State Cricket Association.
The BCCI is yet to inform the IPL teams about the
availability of foreign players. It has stated that this information will be
conveyed to the franchises at a later date. Considering that the Twenty20 World
Cup follows the IPL immediately in June, the duration of availability of
foreign players is crucial information that franchises are eagerly awaiting
before the auction.
