[Saba Sports News] Kristaps Porzingis left Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks on Sunday due to an injury, making his status for the rest of the series uncertain.
On Tuesday, the Celtics announced that Porzingis has a “torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg.” He will be evaluated daily for this “rare injury.”
Porzingis missed most of the playoffs with a right calf injury, which is unrelated to the current issue. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla described the new injury as “serious,” noting that the decision to play will not be up to the 7-foot-3 forward. Despite this, Porzingis said he will “do everything I can to be out there” for Game 3 in Dallas on Wednesday night.
Porzingis sustained the injury late in the third quarter but continued playing in the fourth, finishing with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks, contributing to the Celtics’ 105-98 victory and 2-0 series lead.
In Game 1, Porzingis was dominant, scoring 20 points, with 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. His return has significantly boosted the Celtics on both ends, and his potential absence could greatly impact their performance in Game 3.
