[Saba Sports News] The 2023-24 season for one Boston Celtics player has come to an unfortunate end before it even began. On Sunday, the Celtics made the difficult announcement that Jay Scrubb, a two-way guard, has sustained a torn right ACL during a team practice on Saturday.
Scrubb, who gained recognition as a JUCO star, was selected as the 55th overall pick by the LA Clippers in the 2020 NBA Draft. Although he had limited playing time over two seasons with the Clippers, he displayed flashes of his talent and played a crucial role in the team’s memorable 35-point comeback against the Washington Wizards in January 2022.
Following a season with the Orlando Magic, Scrubb signed a two-way contract with the Celtics in the offseason. He performed impressively for Boston during the Summer League, averaging 14.4 points per game, and appeared poised to make a significant contribution to the NBA roster in the upcoming 2023-24 season.
At just 23 years old, Scrubb still has time on his side, and hopefully, he will make a complete recovery. Nonetheless, this injury is a significant setback for both Scrubb and the Celtics, especially considering the heightened anticipation for the forthcoming season in Boston.
