[Saba Sports News] The Cleveland Cavaliers have appointed Kenny Atkinson, a former NBA champion, as their new head coach.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Atkinson has finalized a deal with the Cavs, after being favored over other candidates like James Borrego and Micah Nori last week.
Atkinson, 57, has spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach with the Golden State Warriors, where he contributed to their 2022 championship win. He is widely recognized for his head coaching stint with the Brooklyn Nets from 2016 to 2020, where he led a significant rebuild and made a playoff appearance. He was dismissed from the Nets in March 2020.
Previously, Atkinson also held assistant coaching roles with the Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, and New York Knicks. With two decades of NBA coaching experience, the Cavaliers believe Atkinson’s extensive background will greatly benefit their young team.
