[Saba Sports News] On June 30, 17-year-old Zhang Zhijie, a player of the Chinese badminton team, fainted during a game and passed away after being taken to the hospital. The Badminton World Federation has expressed its grave concern over this incident and has issued a statement promising a comprehensive investigation into Zhang Zhijie’s death on the field. The investigation will delve into the root cause of the accident, assign responsibility, and examine all relevant details to ensure that all information is thoroughly evaluated and verified. The BWF is collaborating with the Badminton Asia Federation and the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) to take all necessary measures. It is worth noting that the Badminton World Federation has established a comprehensive set of medical guidelines and instructions, which can be adopted by other regions or countries hosting events sanctioned by the federation. However, the implementation of these medical protocols and practices at the event venue is at the discretion of each governing body. The Badminton World Federation is awaiting official reports from the Badminton Asia Federation and the local organizing committee to determine whether the correct medical procedures were followed when Zhang Zhijie collapsed on the court. It is crucial to emphasize that all personnel involved should be prepared to respond swiftly to emergencies, including suspected cardiac arrest, and provide necessary medical interventions until appropriate medical services, such as an ambulance, are available. After reviewing the findings, the Badminton World Federation will consider if any adjustments to these guidelines are required.
