[Saba Sports News] Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen are being presented with an opportunity for reconciliation. The Chicago Bulls have announced the establishment of a Ring of Honor for the team, with the first induction class in 2024 including Jordan, Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Phil Jackson, among others. This event is scheduled to take place during a Bulls home game against the Golden State Warriors, coached by former Bulls player Steve Kerr, on January 12.
According to KC Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, Jordan, Pippen, and other inductees are invited to the event, which will also feature a private gala at the United Center on January 11. The last time Jordan and Pippen were together at the United Center was in 2009, at a tribute for Johnny “Red” Kerr.
Jordan and Pippen, known for leading the Bulls to six NBA championships, have seen their relationship sour in recent years, fueled by public disagreements. The 2020 ESPN docuseries “The Last Dance,” which highlighted the Bulls’ 1990s era from Jordan’s perspective, intensified the rift, particularly due to Pippen’s dissatisfaction with his portrayal. Pippen has been openly critical of Jordan in recent times, a feud that some speculate might be exaggerated due to Pippen’s promotional activities for his autobiography and whiskey brand.
The upcoming Ring of Honor event could be a pivotal moment for these two Bulls legends, especially considering the added complexity of Jordan’s son currently dating Pippen’s ex-wife. It remains to be seen if either or both will accept the Bulls’ invitation to the ceremony.
