[Saba Sports News] 1990s baseball fans are getting a nostalgic nod from the NBA this week.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Friday that the Chicago Bulls are signing free agent big man Kenneth Lofton Jr. on a one-year deal, giving him a chance to compete for a roster spot in training camp.
The news quickly sparked the same joke across social media: Chicago had signed another “Kenny Lofton.” The original Kenny Lofton was a six-time MLB All-Star outfielder who played for the Chicago White Sox and Cubs in the early 2000s, though he was best known for his peak years with the Cleveland Indians in the ’90s.
Lofton Jr., 22, isn’t related to the baseball legend but is a strong low-post scorer, averaging 25.1 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in the NBA G League last season. Now, he’ll look to add to the legacy of Loftons in Chicago.
