[Saba Sports News] The Chicago Bulls may be planning a special tribute to their hometown hero, Derrick Rose.
On Friday, the team announced they would celebrate Rose, who recently retired, with a “Derrick Rose Night” during a game in January.
Bulls insider KC Johnson also reported that the team is considering retiring Rose’s No. 1 jersey, which has remained unworn since Rose left, though it hasn’t been officially retired.
Rose, a Chicago native and former No. 1 overall pick, had a significant impact on the Bulls from 2008 to 2016. He became the team’s second MVP in 2011, joining Michael Jordan, and was the face of the franchise during his tenure.
Despite a career shortened by injuries and limited playoff success, Rose is still beloved in Chicago.
Currently, the Bulls have only retired four player jerseys: Jerry Sloan’s No. 4, Bob Love’s No. 10, Michael Jordan’s No. 23, and Scottie Pippen’s No. 33. While some argue Rose’s peak was brief, a formal jersey retirement would undoubtedly resonate with fans.
