[Saba Sports News] The Milwaukee Bucks are investing heavily in Doc Rivers, banking on his ability to guide them to another NBA championship.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that Rivers has agreed to a deal with the Bucks extending through the 2026-27 season. The contract totals $40 million, averaging about $11.4 million annually. This figure considers that Rivers will only be coaching for a portion of this season.
With an annual salary of $11.4 million, Rivers becomes the NBA’s third highest-paid coach. He trails only Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs, earning around $16 million per year, and Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat, who recently secured a $15 million per year extension.
The Bucks’ decision to part ways with Adrian Griffin, despite a strong 30-13 start to the season, surprised many. However, it soon became evident that Milwaukee had been planning to bring in Rivers.
The substantial contract offered to Rivers reflects the Bucks’ confidence in him, despite mixed reactions from fans. Some speculate this move might not yield the expected results, a sentiment echoed in the humorous reactions following Rivers’ hiring by Milwaukee.
