[Saba Sports News] Renowned Pakistan cricket fan Basheer ‘Chacha’ faced an unusual situation at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). Basheer, a US citizen, had come to welcome the Pakistan cricket team for their ICC Cricket World Cup warm-up match.
As the Pakistan team emerged from the airport terminal, Basheer enthusiastically waved the Pakistan national flag to show his support. However, this act caught the attention of RGIA police, who detained him due to concerns about public safety, briefly interrupting the welcoming celebrations.
Basheer Chacha cooperated with authorities, explaining his identity as a passionate Pakistan cricket team supporter who had traveled to India for the match. He provided his travel documents and identity cards, resolving the misunderstanding.
Following his release, the warm welcome continued. Meanwhile, stringent security measures have been implemented ahead of the Pakistan vs. New Zealand match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on September 29. A significant police presence of 200 personnel will ensure security, including player safety, as requested by the BCCI and HCA. The warm-up match will be played without spectators due to security concerns.
The eagerly awaited ODI World Cup 2023 begins on October 5 with a match between last-time finalists, New Zealand and England, at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
