[Saba Sports News] In a setback for former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, he has been barred from participating in the upcoming Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) elections. The elections, scheduled for October 20, are overseen by the Justice Lavu Nageswara Rao Committee.
Azharuddin’s disqualification stemmed from his dual roles as president of Deccan Blues while holding the position of HCA president, which contravened HCA guidelines. The HCA election notice was issued on September 30 by VS Sampath, covering various positions, including HCA president, vice president, secretary, assistant secretary, treasurer, and executive committee posts.
Nominations for these positions can be submitted from October 11 to 13, with scrutiny on October 14 and the withdrawal option available until October 16. The polling is scheduled for October 20, with results declared the same day.
The decision to hold the elections followed a dispute between Azharuddin and committee members, prompting the Supreme Court to intervene and ensure clarity. The Supreme Court dissolved the Justice Kakru Committee due to internal conflicts and appointed former Justice Lavu Nageshwara Rao to oversee HCA affairs.
Rao subsequently removed Azharuddin from the list of voters in the HCA polls, citing a conflict of interest. Azharuddin has yet to comment on the matter.
